Mom asked me today if I was underweight

For the first time in my entire life, someone questioned if I might be UNDERweight.

I’ve lost a little over ninety pounds now over the past three years, but during that time got pregnant and had a baby. My youngest is fourteen months now, and in the past two months or so I have gotten serious again and finally dipped below my pre-pregnancy weight.

My mom wasn’t being passive aggressive or mean, she was honestly a little concerned that I’d been losing weight and had perhaps lost too much. When I told her that no, in fact I’m still above what what would be considered a healthy BMI, she was relieved. I feel like I’m actually a fairly healthy size now, wearing a size 8/10, but hardly a waif or malnourished looking.

It does make me worry about what she considers “normal.” I’m not sure if it’s just that she’s used to me being so much larger or if it’s that she actually thinks someone my size is underweight. Either way, it really took me back, —on one hand, it’s nice she noticed that I’ve lost some weight, but on the other it wasn’t the most flattering! Either way, I’m hoping to be a healthy BMI in the next month, and to keep getting stronger at the gym.
