Crushed by a comment

I went for a walk today at lunch with a colleague on her “regular route.” A 50 minute brisk walk. A couple times she offered “are you ok to keep going or do you want to take the shorter route?”

I couldn’t figure out why she was asking. Then near the end she said, “I’m so glad you could make the whole route! Wanna walk together every Monday, if it’s not too much?” So I finally said, “Did you think I wouldn’t make it? I run 5k twice a week and 8k or 10k once a week.”

She looked at me in complete shock, then said “Seriously? I never would have guessed that.”

I was crushed. I don’t think she was trying to be mean. I think she just looked at me and didn’t see a fit person.

I run. I lift weights. I do 150 squats every single morning. I’m strong! But I’m also fat. I’ve crept up to post-baby weight (5’5”, 190lbs) without really seeing it. Well - today I saw it. I look like a chubby/fat person.

I want to feel AND look like a strong, fit, healthy person. Day one tomorrow.
