I'm 37, and I was 330 pounds (roughly, no actual starting measurement), and I had a serious heart attack last Sunday (9/29).
My diet wasn't good and I didn't exercise. I'd been telling myself for years that I would diet soon and get serious and lose the weight. I'd started diets in the past and given up on them. I'd made progress before and would then always boomerang back to where I was or worse.
Well, last Sunday, I almost lost my life. Its really put things into a very stark perspective and now there are no other options. I'm going to lose this weight, and I'm going to be there for my kids.
During the hospital stay I had very little appetite, and I'm starting to feel better and can move around the house pretty easily, but serious exercise is off the table for a while. We've been following the low fat and low sodium diet we were instructed to use and I start cardiac rehab next week. I weighed myself this morning and I was at 315! I know it's only 15 pounds, but it still feels pretty good.
Well, that's my start and I know cardiac rehab will help me with specific diet issue and exercise to start, but it's up to me to be strong and keep it going. I may not have picked my Day 1, but I'm committed to it.
