So I start going on my journey about 1 month ago. Start from 80kg (Asian, Male, 22, 1.67m). So as a beginner I started collecting information on weight lost. Some info from websites, some from Youtube videos. Overall, it's all quite confusing to me.
So I learn that to lose weight, its 90% diet and 10% gym (roughly). Great, let's start going on some diet, easy, right? Well, not that easy. So I'm trying out the low-carb diet, which is going well. But then I learnt that not all carbs are bad. There are simple carbs and complex carb. But there's not a significant difference in benefit between the two either. Simple carb mostly exist in junk food and process food. So I thought it'd be more beneficial to eat more complex carbs. But it turn out that whole foods also contain simple carbs as well (well fuck me and my fat ass then). Then I learnt the simple carbs in whole foods like fruits are still better because they also have fiber. (Okay, so at least I can eat fruit).
Next, it's CICO. The idea is quite simple, if the amount of calories you burn is higher than your input calories then you will lose weight. So simple! (I thought). But as it turns out, you can't lower your calories intake too much, or else your body will lower it metabolism and make the amount of output calories decrease as well (the fuck, body?). So you shouldn't starve yourself but still need to lower your calories intake. But then not all calories are created equal. Some calories is different than others. And also you need to do fasting in order to lower your insulin level (or something like that) for around 24~36hrs. So once you eat carbs again it your body can process it better. So which is it then, should I eat fewer calories? Should I starve myself? Should I eat carbs?
About the gym, building muscle is also great for increasing the amount of calories burnt while resting. So get more musle and lose more fat (which make your weight stay the same). So that's super confusing to just record weight only.
Losing weight is such a god damn journey. And I am so confused on what to do and where to go. But I'm not gonna give up anytime soon though. I'm just trying to find my way out of this confusing maze.
