Goal Weight Reached!

Before After

May 2019 some issues in my personal life made me feel like I'd lost control, and I couldn't fix those issues but I could fix my weight which had been creeping up for 6 years and as an active person I felt like I couldn't do the things I wanted to do anymore.

May 5th I weighed myself and was 214lbs at 5'8.

I started calorie counting and logging everything and a few days ago hit my initial goal weight of 160lbs on Jan 5th. 8 months and almost 55lbs lost!

I feel like there really was no secret to it except to keep going despite setbacks and gaps in tracking, like vacations and holidays. Counting calories made me prioritize what I like enough to be worth the calories and what I don't.

The two things that helped me most though was having super easy low calorie meals ready to go so I was never tempted to order or buy fast food. In my case it was 4oz chopped up steak or pork over bagged salad with orange dressing - 372 calories. Easy lunch or dinner and packs well for work. I also kept a cliff bar in my bag as a way to never justify buying lunches at work.

The second thing that really helped was finding a healthy food that felt like an indulgence. I have a huge sweet tooth but a bowl of blueberries with non-fat fake-sugar yogurt(160cal) usually hits the spot, so if I want cake I eat blueberries, and if I still want cake I have a second bowl, and I've never wanted cake after eating that much.

I have really appreciated everyone here posting their thoughts and stories, I don't participate much but it's good to keep my mind on my goals and know that other people are fighting too.
