I’ve been reading Kathryn's Recovery a Guide for the last two weeks and man, so much of what she’s saying resonates with me. I’m finding the questions/activities really enlightening, too.
By completing said activities, I’ve identified the physical act of shopping for food to be a time when my monkey brain jumps around its cage, and even if I have a written list of what I actually need, palatable foods end up in my basket.
I’m at a section of the guide that asks for statements like, "If I do x when I’m experiencing an urge to binge, it helps the urge feel less powerful." I’ve got great statements for when the urge arises at home, but am struggling to find a healthy habit to pick up for when I’m grocery shopping. Can hardly get into a downward dog in the middle of the shopping aisle.
Short of 'aversion therapy' (ie, clicking my tongue, snapping a band on my wrist, tapping my fingers etc...) I’m struggling to identify something I can do out in public.
Does anyone here have any advice or suggestions or anecdotes as to what has worked for them if they experience a similar urge before/during their time at the supermarket?
Thanks in advance 😊
