So I've been fighting what seems to be a losing battle with the scale and measuring tape for most of my adult life. At my heaviest, I was at 308 and3 years ago decided to make a change for the better. Losing the first 40 lbs was "easy", for some reason i just seem to gain weight quickly after a "bad" day.
I'm very cautious about what I eat, try to minimize process foods (it's hard when you have kids), drink lots of water - a minimum of 1/2 gallon, but most days it's a gallon+, exercise regularly - running between 7-10 miles week and hiking 8-12 miles and generally try to get about-7 1/2 hours of sleep.
In mid-January, about the same time I bought my FitBit, I weighed 253. Prior to that weigh-in, I was steadily losing at about 1 lb a week after switching from a plant-based diet to a more normal one. About a week later, I got about 5 hours of sleep the night before my weekly weigh-in and my weight jumped to 258 (5 lbs). The only thing that had changed in my routine was running a 10K the Sunday prior.
For the next few months, I witnessed a steady increase in weight gain - .75 to 1 lb a week finally peaking at 268 in the middle of the COVID Pandemic. I admit part of that was a drastic change in routine- working from home and but for the most part I continued my physical activities.
For the past few weeks, I've been fluctuating between 268 and 263 depending on activity. I'm getting discouraged looking at the scale and the measuring tape.
Any advice on how to get past this?
Do I need to readjust my caloric intake and macros, change my sleeping habits???
Any advice you can provide to break out of this plateau would be appreciated.
