Food-obsessed Family

I need some advice. I’m currently the only person in my close family who actually pays attention to their health; I watch what I eat, I exercise almost daily, and now I’m on a journey to lose those “last 10 pounds.”

Both of my parents are completely food-obsessed and addicted to sugar. Like we just went out to eat for my birthday and all they talked about were other restaurants they’ve been to and other kinds of food. I’m not even shitting y’all. As someone who used to struggle with binge eating and food-obsession myself it can be triggering sometimes, but mostly its really boring and annoying and I’m dying to talk about something else.

I touched on this in a previous post but they’re also the kind of people to not eat all day (thinking if they skip meals they’ll lose weight) only to splurge on dinner and eat a bunch of sugary fatty snacks later (because hey, I haven’t eaten all day, I deserve this).

I used to follow this mentality and it honestly sucks. Now I’m eating three meals a day with snacks and losing weight.

I just want to know how to deal with their constant food blabber and romanticization, and maybe steer them away from food-obsessed thinking. It’s annoying and distracts me from my goals and I know I may come off as brash here but having your mom drag you away from a book or workout at 2pm to discuss dinner plans or restaurants or a recipe she saw for the past four months is getting on my nerves.
