No Laughing Matter

M/25/5’9” [SW: 310lbs | CW: 235lbs | GW: 185lbs]

Just over 6 months ago, I came to a realization one day when I stepped on the scale.

“310 pounds...what the hell happened?”

Two years after losing 35 pounds in about four months, I had gained all of that weight back and then some. Eating was a cure for boredom and sadness, and I had little regard or remorse for what I put inside my body. I am an improv comedian, and every show I did I always felt self conscious on stage, gut bulging from my shirt and huffing and puffing 5 minutes into a set.

Then, Super Bowl weekend came in February, and after stepping on the scale that Saturday, I said to myself that enough was enough. The Monday after, I re-downloaded MyFitnessPal, started meal prepping again, and committed myself to the grind.

After just over six months of IF, CICO and strength/cardio training, I’ve finally hit the 75 pound loss mark. 235 pounds. I haven’t been this thin since high school ended almost ten years ago.

The Before and After

Yesterday was a wedding of two of my comedy friends, and a bunch of us in our comedy community were there as a group to hang out and party together and celebrate. All of them had such nice things to say about my progress, but the one that stuck out the most was “Your progress is so inspiring.”

Honestly, I’m just a 25 year old guy trying to reverse years of terrible choices and habits, but if I can be that positive influence on someone to be healthy, I’ll gladly continue to forge forward and tackle this beast head on. I’ve still got a long way to go to hit my ultimate goals, but I’m a hell of a lot closer now than I’ve ever been.

As for the future of my comedy career, that sweater in the before picture may have to be swapped out come wintertime, because it’s quite big on me now!
