60 years and 80 pounds!

Hello, everyone! First-time poster in this wonderful community.

To start, I'm a 5'6" 60-year-old disabled woman, and am recovering from some pretty major surgery that hopefully will make me be able to walk better (arthritis sucks, guys).

A little over a year ago, I weighed 329. Today I stepped on the scales and I am 249. EIGHTY POUNDS!! Wowza. Yeah, I have a ways to go, but I am here to tell you that if a post-menopausal woman who can barely walk can do it, you can too!

How did I do it? I cut waaaaay back on carbs by not eating rice, pasta, bread, corn syrup or fake sugar (except for one can of Diet Dr. Pepper most days). I kept my added sugar to a minimum as well. I am no longer crazy hungry, and as soon as I feel the least filled up, I stop (leftovers are fine!). If I am hungry in 20 minutes or so, I'll eat a little more. My motto has been, "You can't take the second bite if you don't take the first." Cheesy, but it works for me.

I exercise in a huge therapeutic pool (90 degrees, nearly Olympic-sized) I am lucky enough to have near me. It is attached to a senior living community (I'm not living there; they allow locals to join for a low price, and there's an awesome gym there too!).

I have transgressed more times than I can count, but I don't give up. I'm currently working on just trying to build up strength and endurance so I can walk again without a walker and orthopedic boot. Got a ways to go. They operated on my foot and cut my calf muscle, so sometimes it's painful, but I'm getting better. I'm a tough broad. :-) It's also not my first major surgery rodeo.

My husband also changed his eating habits in loving support and is looking gooooooood. (He always looked beautiful to me, but he's beautifuller!)

I want to thank all of you guys who have opened up here. It has helped me and, I'm sure, lots of other people too. Keep it up and do your best to stay positive!

Here's to the continuing journey!!
