Advice needed: My dad overeats desserts and it’s concerning

Okay, so I would really like some advice from someone. I don’t want to bring this up with my friends in case they think I’m rude.

I’m very concerned for my dad’s health. Since this stay-at-home order, I’ve been staying with them since I didn’t want to be all alone in my apartment for weeks.

I can’t help but notice just how MUCH sugar he eats. For example, this morning he had two large cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and just ate 9 lemon ball desserts. I did the math (can’t help it) and he ate 1000 calories just from those lemon desserts alone.

My dad doesn’t exercise much at all, is over 50, and both his parents have extreme heart issues. I’ve tried to gently bring up his sugar habits and he always laughs it off and says he’ll start dieting “on Monday.”

What should/can I do? I’m so concerned for him. I don’t want to nag or seem overbearing, but every day it seems to get worse. He can’t go a day without eating a large amount of sugar. I don’t bring this up to judge him, but I love him and want him to be healthy.
