What motivated you to change? Not you wanting to lose fat, but what caused that lasting mindset change? For me it was a few things really. One of them may paint me in a negative light but i'll try to explain it.
Probably the first thing that got me back into dieting was the scale. I was horrified to see my weight back up to 250 pounds. 265 pounds was my heaviest. My last diet got me down to 233 pounds but then I slowly went back to my old ways and hit 250 again. The weight was beginning to affect my health to.
I was having heart palpitations more frequently; I've had them for a long time ever since a traumatic event that lead me to a medical discharge from the military. The more weight I put on the worst, more frequent they became. More weight also caused other physical issues.
I notice it became difficult to sleep facing down. It would feel like I had a ball under me. It also became more difficult to bend forward to touch my toes to stretch. I know a lot of people understand the dreaded thigh rubbing in hot humid weather as well. I feel a little ashamed of the reason that is keeping me on my diet, has totally changed my mindset on food, and will never share with anyone who knows me in real life in fear of hurting feelings.
My mother needed a place to stay. She is very overweight and loves her fast food, snacks, and soda. One day for some odd reason I decided to watch her stuff her face with pizza. Something clicked in me and my whole idea of what food is totally changed. I no longer look at dieting as losing out on enjoying tasty foods.
It has been a few weeks with some minor setbacks, but I am down to 237.2 and losing at least a pound a week. I know your stomach doesn't shrink, but it is taking less food to feel full now. I feel like I have more energy and can sleep in the position I normally would again. Down to size 38 waist pants and they're starting to feel lose. Size 38 is kind of odd to be back in at this weight for me though.
When I was very active, gym 5 times a week, I was right at 200 pounds, size 36 jeans and a visible six pack. HIIT workouts were my thing. Would be nice to get back to something like that. But for now I am focused on sticking to a 'diet.' I put diet in quotation marks because its really just a more healthy lifestyle and not what most people call diets. I am aiming for a lifelong 'diet.'
