I (25F, 5'4", SW 160, CW 135, GW 125, CICO & counting steps) have finally reached my initial goal weight this year. (I haven't had a healthy BMI since I was a child, and I think I can stand to lose a little more so that I'm squarely in the middle of my healthy weight range, rather than being just on the border of overweight.)
I've noticed some changes that other people going through their weight loss journey have reported. My clothes are loose-fitting now, sitting down is less comfortable, I'm more cold than I've ever been, etc. But, there have been some additional side-effects (some good, some not so good,) that I didn't expect, and I wanted to share those here:
- My head got smaller! When I lean forward, my glasses fall off my face. Also, none of the masks I bought at the beginning of the year fit snugly anymore.
- I'm more wrinkly. Not dramatically, but I notice it in pictures. The fine lines in my face have deepened a little now that my cheeks are less full.
- I can feel more bones. Very Halloween appropriate: when I press down on different parts of my body, I can feel the bones underneath. This often happens by accident, and it startles me every time.
- My thighs chafe less. I used to get really bad chub-rub, and that's now mostly gone. Seeing people run in shorts is less mystifying to me now.
- The stretch marks on my body are more visible now. I didn't notice this until recently, but the stretch marks on the inside of my thighs run further down than they used to. I also have stretch marks on my hips that I never noticed before. To be fair, I'm not sure if this is a hormone thing or a weight loss thing.
- I don't have a thigh-gap, my body isn't really shaped to have one, but I do have finger- and toe-gaps. When I push the tips of my fingers and toes together, there're gaps at the base. I noticed this during the sunny summer days, when I could see light passing through my hand. Weird sensation.
Not super unusual, and certainly not unexplainable, but unexpected. I'm curious what other people have noticed, in terms of physical changes. Anyone else had weird ones?
(PS, thank you for reading to the end, if you did. r/loseit has been a really great encouragement in my weight loss journey. I love the positivity and constructive voices here. Hope this post helps!)
(PPS, Luke Narwhal from Youtube brought me here.)
