So I have oral allergy syndrome (OAS) also known as pollen-food allergy. Essentially what it means is that tons of different nuts, fruits, and vegetables cause an allergic reaction. I’ve been trying to lose a bit of weight and really just have a healthier lifestyle for a couple years and not being able to eat a majority of “healthy” foods is really stunting my progress. I’ve seen a dietician who gave me two main pieces of advice: decrease my portion size by a lot and see an allergist. I went to the allergist and they recommended allergy shots every other week, but warned it would be a long process due to the multiple pollen allergies I have (those pollen allergies being birch, ragweed, mugwort, alder, and grass)
I try to exercise once a day, I walk at least a mile and a half from taking my dog out, I do yoga, and I work up a pretty good sweat playing DDR at the arcade with friends on the weekends.
The last time I pursued this goal I developed an eating disorder that left me in the hospital and I do NOT want to go that route again.
I guess my main question is... what do I do? I’ve been struggling with this for years. The allergy shots have helped and I can now eat some vegetables when they’ve been cooked or processed in some way but I still can’t eat any fruits without needing an epipen.
If anyone has any advice on meals, supportive words, or even a dumb joke I’d appreciate it. Thanks for reading and stay safe out there.
