Mobile user here! Hope nothing looks weird or out of place!!
I was inspired to write this from another post I saw yesterday.
I am a firm believer that non-scale victories are more motivating than scale victories. For me, someone who had yo-yo dieted all through my teenage years, I’ve hit the scale milestones time and time again (though this is the furthest and most successful journey I’ve been on—hello, healthy BMI!) The scale isn’t as exciting for me anymore. In fact, the scale can be kind of scary when it fluctuates up and down so much! So I’m here to ask:
What is/are/was your favorite non-scale victory/victories?
My favorites are the small things.
Like, when I grab a meal out with friends and I don’t actually enjoy the food I’m eating all that much—I just stop eating. I don’t feel the need to eat the food that’s on my plate just because it’s there. I’ve always been a person who clears my plate. Not anymore apparently! The same thing with beverages. I’ve tried those “low calorie” drink packets in my water. Most of the time, I like them. But this one blue raspberry packet I had tonight at work...gross. It was super concentrated and way too strong for my taste. I tried to dilute it with extra water, but it just never turned out how I thought it should have. So, instead of drinking it just because, I dumped it down the drain and got some plain water. Sure, it was only 5 calories. But I was proud of myself for not drinking the calories that I didn’t even like the taste of! It’s happened with soups before, too. I’ll eat the good stuff inside, but find I don’t like the broth. Instead of clearing my bowl, I just push it aside.
Another non-scale victory favorite of mine is clothing becoming too big on your body! It just kind of creeps up on you! For months, I wore XXL, XL, and L shirts. One day I looked in the mirror and it just looked like I was swimming in my clothes. Then I threw on a pair of jeans and realized how desperately I would need to put on a belt to wear them. But wait...now all my belts are too big! I’ve since had go to downsize my shirts to M-S and my pants are still expanding around my waist every week. Pretty soon, I’ll need another new belt or a few more pairs of pants.
Share your victories with us, fellow loser! Relish in the glory of what good things you are doing for your body and health!
