I am 15 Years Old, Obese, and Trying to Lose it

Hi all,

My name is Josh. I am currently 15 years old, 5'9", and 240 pounds. How did I get to this point? I don't really know.

When I was younger, I was very active and would often go outside. I loved sports. Then, around the summer of 2012, I began to go outside less and less, staying inside more often and using my computer. In 2013, at my annual checkup, my doctor told me I was slightly overweight. This had bothered me when I first heard it, but I soon forgot about it and kept going with life. In 5th Grade (2014), my weight became more and more noticeable and I began to get bullied because of it. And, with my only way of coping being eating, I continued to gain weight. In 6th Grade, I was very overweight still. I was having more trouble being able to run and to go out for recess. In 7th Grade I switched schools. No longer was I having homemade lunches. Instead, I began to eat the meals served by the school which were quite fattening and definitely not helpful with my already weight problem. Finally, in 8th Grade, I was obese. I was shocked again. I never thought I would make it to that point at such a young age, but I had.

I've been trying to lose weight for years, starting in the summer of 2016. I was biking everyday in the summer, but didn't change my diet at all. In 2017, I did nothing to try and lose weight. In 2018, though, I began to go for bike rides everyday in May and gave up soda. I was also eating salads regularly. However, in the summer, I fell into a depression over sudden loss of a friend. I got back into my old habits of drinking soda and eating fattening foods.

As of now, I haven't had soda since January of 2019. However, my diet still needs to be changed. I am tired of being known as the fat friend and being the fat kid. I want to change that. I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations for what foods would be good to eat. I also have been going for walks daily now and they also seem to be helping with just being able to relieve stress. I would also like to mention I'm not at all knowledgeable with nutrition and whatnot, so I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to food.

Thank you for reading. I hope this is the beginning of my journey.
